El Hotel Barcelona Princess,
, located in the emblematic
Diagonal de
Barcelona, now open to the sea, offers us a panoramic view at the city
from the same beginning of the route that the architect Ildefons Cerdà was
planning in 1859, in what would be his magnificent project of the Eixample of
Barcelona. |
|
From the top floors orientated to the northwest, whose big windows appear
squarely to the great city, the view takes us from the same shore of the
Mediterranean up to the peak of the Parque de Collserola, in whose top the
temple of the Tibidabo and the slender communications tower made by Norman
Foster gives it a peculiar and fascinating silhouette. From the hotel´s top
floors, this immense
Avenida Diagonal nos ofrece desde los perfiles de la novísima
Torre Agbar offers us from the profiles of the novisima tower Agbar with its
“peculiar” roundness up to the impressive spires of the not less peculiar and
majestic temple of the sacred family
Sagrada Familia.
|
| Following always the sight that marks us the above mentioned
route, we spy the great city that in its two very differentiated parts
(north-south-sea-mountain) will invite us to cross this Barcelona of the route
of the Jews through the narrow streets of its Gothic neighbourhood (Barrio
Gótico) , or the route of them many-colored(mixed) markets of the city taking
special attención in the emblematic one of
The Boqueria, (Boqueria placed in the
middle of the Ravines of Barcelona (Ramblas de Barcelona) |
|
Also from the
Hotel Barcelona Princess, a good public transport net allows us to move
in a short time to the places of the city mas commonly visited, as there are
among others the museum Picasso, the
MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art), The Cathedral, ,
the Miró foundation, , this last one located in the middle of the lower
slopes of the mountain Montjuïc with its castle at the peak and its botanical
garden, that offers us a large variety of different species that we can enjoy,
acceding to the mountain by the little carriages of the cable car or with the
peculiar funicular from the Poble Sec station.
|
|
From the castle you can spy a marvellous panoramic view at the port of
Barcelona, starting point and point of destiny for the big cruises of the
Mediterranean, and a view at de famous “Olimpic ring” with its Olimpic Stadium,
the impressive palace of the Nacional Art Museum of Catalonia MNAC (Museu
Nacional d’Art de Catalunya) and the amazing Tower Calatrava of
telecommunications.
|
|
We can enjoy already, just in front of the entrance of the
Hotel Barcelona Princess, , a quiet journey with the modern and new
“tram”. It takes us in hardly 10 minutes to the principal centres of theatre and
music of the city like L’Auditori de Barcelona (Auditorium of Barcelona) and the
Teatre Nacional de Catalunya (National Theatre of Catalonia), both very
close to the Ciutadella Parc and
Barcelona’s Zoo..
|
|
For traditional classic music lovers, Metro line no. 4 (exit: Urquinaona
Station) leaves us at the entrance of the
Palau de la Música Catalana (Catalan Music
Palace) and taking an easy walk for about 10 minutes along one of the most
commercial arteries such as Calle de Comtal, Portal de l’Angel and Santa Ana, we
reach, in the middle of the Rambla de las Flores (The ravine of the flowers),
the
Gran Teatre del Liceo, the great firstrate opera center of Barcelona.
|
|
A pause in the history and tradition of this great Barcelona takes us to visit
two big and peculiar temples such as La Catedral de Barcelona (Barcelona´s
Cathedral) and the Basílica de Santa Maria (Saint Mary’s Basilica) without
forgetting the Basílica de la Mercè situated just a few steps away from the
Drassanas (the former shipyards of Barcelona) and the Christopher Columbus’
statue who, from the top of his column in front of the Port and at the beginning
of the already mentioned Ramblas, points out to the land that was one day felt
and discovered.

|
The Hotel
Barcelona Princess Diagonal recommends their customers a fascinating
adventure such as the bicycle-route along Barcelona, taking always the famous
Avenida Diagonal, of which the imposing building of the Hotel Barcelona Princess
is proud of being edge and initial angle, as starting- and returningpoint.
|
|
Following the route we can pedal placidly until running down the famous Passeig
de Gràcia and stop to admire the work of the valued architect Antoni Gaudí
visiting the Casa de la Pedrera and the not less famous Casa Batlló.
|
|
Taking up again our particular cultural journey along the famous route up to
almost the end of Barcelona on the mountain side, we reach as the nothern final
point the magnificent Parque de Cervantes, where we can admire its rose bush
collection, and to stop at the surprising Palau de Pedralbres (without
forgetting to visit the monastery with the same name) to decide the returning
route to our place to rest. A pause to visit the most representatives buildings
of Modernism in Catalonia (Art Decó), allows us to enjoy the gastronomic choice
that the great city offers us.
|
|
To the most adventurers the
Hotel Barcelona Princess recommends to continue on this bicycle route
and to descend along the Sea side of the Avenida Diagonal up to the Rambla de
Catalunya, to follow the Rambles until the Avinguda del Paral.lel, where, very
close to the Monasterio de Sant Pau del Camp (Saint Paul’s Monestery), the route
will lead us again to the famous Ramblas of Barcelona and when crossing them, we
can venture going into the Escudillers street (with an obliged visit to the
restaurant Los Caracoles (The Snails)) until the neighbourhood of the Tascas
(cheap bars) where their cheese and varied Tapas will be the the delight of our
customers.
|
|
Those who decide to follow the Avinguda del Paral.lel up to the Plaça d’Espanya,
will find the Fira de Barcelona (Fairs and international congresses center) with
its impressive towers that dominate the main entrance. After continuing along
the Avenida Maria Cristina, flanked by the slender towers and see the famous
Fuentes (fountains) de Montjuïc (La Font Màgica – the magic fountain) with a
sublime spectacle of water, light and sound created by the famous architect
Carles Buigas, you will reach the peculiar end of this stage which is El Pueblo
Español (The Spanish Village) where you will find a choice of splendid
gastronomic and cultural offers. .
|
|
To the more deliberate customers, The
Hotel Barcelona Princess recommends, after visiting the 17 original
tapestries of the painter Salvador Dali in our
Dali lounge located on the Altell floor adjoined to our hotel, a
relaxed walk along the entire Forum de les Cultures 2004 (the main entrance is
at 20 meters distance from the hotel) and to estimate the great urban
development and landscape remodeling that has represented for Barcelona, the
same as in those days the famous Olympic Games of Barcelona 92 did represent. |
